Her professional world vision is to drastically reduce the amount of vaginal and bladder dysfunctions through early education to empower women to take control of their reproductive health. This education will increase the quality of life for women all around the world!
Before attending medical school, Dr. Teresa Irwin was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of nursing and she worked as a nurse for many years. Dr. Teresa Irwin is board certified in female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery (FPMRS), previously known as urogynecology. Dr. Irwin is one of less than 2,000 board certified FPMRS in the United States and the only one between San Antonio and Austin, TX. She also serves as an expert witness on female pelvic dysfunctions. As an award- winning gynecologist, in 2005 Dr. Irwin was selected as one of "Super Doctors" in 2006 “Best Doctors in Texas” and in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2020, 2021, and 2022 by Texas Monthly. The Consumer’s Research Council of America awarded her as “America’s Top Obstetricians and Gynecologists” in 2008 and 2010.
She has been awarded a certificate of appreciation from Community Action Inc. of Hays, Caldwell and Blanco counties where she has served as the pro bono medical director of Women’s Health Program and Family Planning Services for over 10 years. She is a Fellow of The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG) and American Medical Association (AMA). She is a member of the American Urogynecologic Society.
She provides women of all ages essential education, female empowerment, advanced female pelvic medicine, reconstructive surgery of the pelvic floor, and gynecologic aesthetic surgery. Her philosophy is to present extraordinary healthcare throughout a woman's life by treating the whole person (body, mind, and spirit). She wants to provide the information that will empower women to take an active role in their own reproductive health, during all stages of their lives.
Dr. Irwin’s own personal experiences inspire her passion for helping women reclaim control over their lives. She described her experience in her chapter in the internationally best selling book, Ignite Your Health and Wellness.
Dr. Irwin is married to a brilliant family physician, Dr. Richard Laue, and has been blessed with three kind, and gorgeous sons. Additionally, she has been gifted with the most adorable granddaughter and an amazing daughter-in-love. She has participated in several missionary trips as a medical volunteer. She is bilingual in English and Spanish. As an exercise enthusiast, Dr. Irwin keeps her body in shape with belly dancing, Salsation fitness, yoga, hypopressives; as well as prior obstacle course races with her family. She was also a prior physique competitor.
In January 2020, Dr. Irwin founded "The Vaginacologist" because after years of working as both a surgeon and expert witness on female pelvic dysfunctions, she realized many of the issues her patients were experiencing were due to a lack of education. She now has a following of over 150,000 across social media platforms. Dr. Irwin provides educational resources to help women understand their anatomy and implement preventative measures to reach their full potential. As a speaker, she provides education that will drastically reduce a woman’s risk of developing vaginal and bladder dysfunctions. This information will increase the quality of life for women all around the world! In November of 2020, her company received the GOLD winner award for Startup of the Year - through Women in Business and the Professions World Awards.
