Dr. Ravi S. Radhakrishnan is the Chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery, the Vice-Chair of Education, and the Program Director of the General Surgery Residency Program at the University of Texas Medical Branch. He received his undergraduate degree in Bio-engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA and an MBA in general management from the University of St. Thomas in Houston, TX.
After graduating from medical school at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, he completed his general surgery residency and an NIH T32 sponsored research fellowship in Shock, Resuscitation and Intestinal Physiology at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in Houston. In addition, he completed a Pediatric Surgery fellowship at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. He holds the John Sealy Distinguished Chair in Clinical Research and is the Primary Investigator on a multi-center grant funded by the Department of Defense to examine sepsis after burn injury. Dr. Radhakrishnan has authored over 50 scientific publications and has given 115 presentations at national and international meetings. His clinical interests are in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Portal Hypertension/Complex Hepatobiliary Surgery.
In addition to multiple teaching awards, Dr. Radhakrishnan has been elected to the UTMB Academy of Master Teachers, the UT System Shine Academy of Health Science Education, and the ACS Academy of Master Surgeon Educators (Associate Member) and holds the honorific title of University of Texas Distinguished Teaching Professor.
