U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra today released HHS's National Plan to Address Alzheimer's Disease: 2023 Update - PDF. The National Plan is a roadmap of strategies and actions of how HHS and its partners can accelerate research, expand treatments, improve care, support people living with dementia and their caregivers, and encourage action to reduce risk factors.

Oral small-molecule GLP-1 Drugs Penetrate Deep Into The Brain To Suppress Cravings

A National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded study has found that an emerging class of GLP-1 weight-loss drugs suppress eating for pleasure, or hedonic feeding, in mice by modulating a reward circuit deep within the brain. This newly charted pathway — separate from previously described mechanisms that broadly affect appetite — could be an avenue by which GLP-1s treat other dysfunctions in reward processing, such as substance use disorder.

Daily Physical Activity, Even at Light Intensities, Linked to Lower Cancer Risk

In a prospective cohort study of more than 85,000 adults in the United Kingdom, researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and University of Oxford found that individuals who engaged in light- and moderate-to-vigorous-intensity daily physical activity had a lower risk of cancer than individuals who were more sedentary.
