Dr. Michael George is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where he also played linebacker on the football team. He then earned his medical degree at Case Western Reserve University and later completed his Orthopaedic Surgery residency training at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. George went on to obtain additional fellowship training in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Shoulder Surgery at Vanderbilt University where he gained extensive experience in advanced shoulder and knee surgery. Dr. George was one of the first doctors in Houston to earn the Subspecialty Certification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine.
Dr. Michael George specializes in orthopaedic sports medicine, advanced arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic shoulder stabilization, distal biceps tendon repair, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, multiligament knee reconstruction, total shoulder replacement and total knee replacement. He sees patients at the Willowbrook and Springwoods Village office locations in Houston.
Dr. George treats professional rodeo cowboys as a member of the Justin Sports Medicine Team and has been a team physician for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. He is the head team physician for North American University, Texas A&T junior college football team, and several area high schools. He has served as the team physician for the Scrap Yard Dawgs professional softball team, Texas Copperheads professional Arena 2 Football team, Prairie View A&M University and The Woodlands Strykers collegiate baseball team. During his training he served an assistant team physician for Vanderbilt University, Belmont University in Nashville, the Nashville Sounds AAA Baseball team, the Cincinnati Bengals, and the University of Cincinnati. Dr. George has done medical mission work performing total knee replacements in disadvantaged villages in Central America. Like his colleagues at KSF, Dr. George believes in trying all non-operative treatments before recommending surgery. He spends the extra time to explain all the options to his patients so they can make the most informed decisions.
Dr. George has been active academically as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine as well as a Clinical Instructor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Texas at Houston. He is the Co-Chairman of the Board at TOPS Surgical Specialty Hospital. He has served as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Methodist Willowbrook Hospital. His research has been published extensively in multiple orthopaedic journals and he was voted as one of the best doctors in Texas by Texas Monthly Magazine as well as one of Houston's Top Doctors by H Texas Magazine. He is also a reviewer for the journal Arthroscopy and the American Journal of Sports Medicine.
Dr. George is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, Texas Medical Association, and the Vanderbilt Orthopaedic Society. He is also a member of the AAOS Sports Medicine/Arthroscopy Program Subcommittee and the AOSSM Public Relations Committee.
